Please note: the maintainer of this site is not the manager of the LNOTES-L mailing list. Neither is Ken Yee, who maintains the Notes FAQ site, which is where I got the information which this posting is based on. For information about the current status of the LNOTES-L list, you can generally check the home page of this web log. If you haven't seen it yet, please read this introductory message about the purpose of this web log.
The LNotes-L mailing list is Listserver-based email list for Notes programmers and administrators. It has been in operation since at least 1993.
Contacting the Administrator
The administrator is Joe Ashkar ( lnotes-l@ashcom.net). You can email him w/ any administration problems.
Subscribing
Send a message to lnote-l-request@ozzie.notesnic.net. In the body of the letter, enter SUBSCRIBE LNOTES-L <your-name>. You will then be automatically added to the list. To subscribe an address other than the one you are sending from, send a message to lnotes-l-mgr@ozzie.notesnic.net. In the body of the letter, enter SUBSCRIBE LNOTES-L ADDRESS. Replace ADDRESS with the address to send messages to. Approval of your request will not be immediate. Please be patient. Please do not send your subscribe message to any other address!
Unsubscribing
Send a message to listproc@ozzie.notesnic.net. In the body of the letter, enter SIGNOFF LNOTES-L. You will then be deleted from the list.
To unsubscribe an address other than the one you are sending from, send a message to lnotes-l-mgr@ozzie.notesnic.net. In the body of the letter, enter UNSUBSCRIBE LNOTES-L ADDRESS. Replace ADDRESS with the address you wish to unsubscribe. Approval of your request will not be immediate. Please be patient. Please do notsend your subscribe message to any other address! The above instructions are correct and up-to-date. You will only succeed in aggravating a lot of people if you send a message to all list subscribers asking for help with unsubscribing.
Sending Mail to the Mailing List
Address your message to lnotes-l@ozzie.notesnic.net. Write your message and send it. It will be automatically distributed to the members of the list. Please make sure that you don't use Return Receipt Requested or Carbon Copy back to the list! There may be a delay of several minutes to several hours before your message appears.
Temporarily Shutting Off Mail Delivery
If you don't want to receive messages for an extended period of time (e.g., you go on vacation), but want to reserve your place in the queue, send a message to listproc@ozzie.notesnic.net with a body of SET LNOTES-L MAIL POSTPONE. When you return, send a message to listproc@ozzie.notesnic.net with a body of SET LNOTES-L MAIL ACK.
And, please, please, please take note of this: If you set up an out-of-office agent or other equivalent mechanism to respond to your email when you are away on vacation, you should be sure to exclude this mailing list from receiving these automatic responses. You will aggravate a lot of people if you do not do this, and you especially do not want to aggravate Turtle. Really. Trust me on this.
Getting All Messages from a Specific Day
Send a message to listproc@ozzie.notesnic.net with a body of GET LNOTES-L <yymmdd>.
Searching for a Specific Topic
Send a message to listproc@ozzie.notesnic.net with a body of SEARCH LNOTES-L <topic>.
Threaded Archives
The IBM DeveloperWorks (formerly Lotus Developer Domain, formerly www.notes.net) site has an archive of the list going back to 1999.
Cygnus also has an archive.
Turtle's Weightless Dog site (the home of the Gonzo Lotusphere site) also has an archive.
