An Airplane Just Landed On Starbucks

Oh wait... it wasn't an airplane. I'm wearing a pair of Sony noise-canceling headphones (a gift from Microsoft's Empower Program, actually), and it was just the sound of the Espresso/Cappuccino machine. Seems like the attenuation, which is very good for most types of ambient background noise, doesn't work nearly as well for the barrage of frequencies that come from the machine. In contrast to the relative quiet -- I don't actually have anything playing over the headphones at the moment -- the machine noise came through very loud and clear.
