Blackouts All of the Northeast, except Massachusetts and New Hampshire lost power. I have to wonder, how did we manage to escape this one? I also have to wonder, is there any way we can blame this one on Microsoft? ;-)
I guess yet another round of "Where were you when the lights went out?" is about to start. For the record, in the 1965 blackout I was on the tenth floor of our apartment building in The Bronx, playing the first game of Monopoly of my life. Well, "playing" may be overstating it a bit, because at five years old I had very little idea of what the older kids were doing. One of the kids said "Hey! The lights are flickering." I didn't know what "flickering" meant, but when it went dark a couple of seconds later I figured it out. We had to walk down eight flights of stairs by flashlight, then I spent some time looking out the window into the darkness, and my dad came home rather late, but otherwise it was pretty uneventful. In 1977 I was in New Jersey, and we never lost power, so we got to watch the rioting on television. My dad got home from Manhattan very, very late that night.
