Breaking The Silence Yeah, I know... I've been blog-quiet for a while. Starting to get back into it. Just wanted to note that (a) I'm still alive and well, and (b) for those of you who like to keep track of crypto cracking efforts the latest development is that 576 bit RSA has fallen to brute force analysis. See this article about a successful RSA-576 crack using 100 workstations. It doesn't say how long it took, which is unfortunate. Last I heard, Notes and Domino use 630 bit RSA. Not sure if 6.5 has gone beyond that, though I know that IBM has had longer keys in their plans for a while. 630 is still considerably stronger than 576, of course, and I'm still quite sure that all my data (and all of my customers' data) is secure given that the cost of cracking it would still far exceed the value of the information, but the time when the most sensitive data absolutely needs stronger protection than RSA-630 is getting closer.
