Different links Annika Sörenstam may have missed the cut at the Colonial, but (though I never doubted this for a minute) I believe she proved conclusively that she is a great golfer by any standard, that she plays well enough at championship distances that she did deserve this opportunity, and that she deserves more opportunities to play against the best golfers in the world. I notice on the (IBM-powered... so I guess that makes this post relevant!) leaderboard, by the way, quite a few very familiar male golfer's names, including major championship winners like Mark Brooks, Scott Simpson and Tom Lehman, as well as Sergio Garcia (who has probably received a few sponsors exemptions himself), who failed to make the cut along with Annika this week. How many men, I wonder, have ever played as well as Annika did in their first competitive rounds on the PGA tour? Tiger Woods himself didn't make a cut until the 8th time he played (admittedly, as a 19 year old amateur) in a PGA tour event!
