End User Tips This morning my wife asked me how to block mail from a particular sender. I answered her by writing up some pretty general instructions about mail rules, and sending them to her. That was much easier than trying to teach her on her laptop, because she uses it in her favorite easy chair, which is wedged into a corner where I can't stand over her shoulder and watch what she's doing.
Anyhow, having written this up, it occurred to me that perhaps I should post it. There are quite a few excellent sites with development tips and admin tips, and you do see the occasional end-user tip but I'm not aware of any sites that have a significant section devoted to Notes end-user tips. I did some google searches on a few topics that I thought would surely be covered on such a site, and I also searched through my aggregator database, and all I found were a few isolated articles scattered around various sites. So, I said to myself, "Hmmmmm... why not devote a section of my own blog to end-user tips? That might bring in a bit of traffic, and it might even help a few people."
Now, of course I know that the Notes Help database covers just about everything that I might want to write a tip about, and it does it pretty well, too... but people don't necessarily know what to look for there. If my wife had opened up the Help, clicked on the search button, and typed "block and sender", she would have found what she was looking for, but she would have to know enough about full text search to know to type that instead of "block sender" or "blocking a sender", because neither of those queries works. Plus, she would have had to know that "Filtering new mail using rules" was the topic (amongst five hits) that contained the answer to her question. It might be a whole lot easier for her, or for any of the millions of end users out there, if there were a site devoted to explaining neat things you can do with the Notes client in easy-to-follow language.
What do you all think? Would this be a valuable thing? Is there a site out there that already has something like this that I don't know about? If I decide to do this, will you be willing to contribute some tip ideas in exchange for proper attribution, a link to your blog, etc.?
