He's Running Again

Oh wow! I just saw a campaign spot for Lyndon LaRouche! He's running for president again! For those of you not familiar with Lyndon, he calls himself an economist. He calls himself a Democrat. He calls himself a Statesman. He calls himself lots of things, but the only thing he really should be called is a paranoid crackpot, convicted of fraud.

Oddly enough, Larouche seems to really have a small but fanatical following willing to fund his quadrennial run for office. His followers really do believe his bizarre conspiracy theories about the Queen of England heading an international drug cartel that secretly controls the US government.

The first time I heard of LaRouche was in 1980, and I think he's run in every election since then. His rally in Hanover was abruptly canceled in 1980, apparantly when his advance men found out that at least one Dartmouth student planned to show up in a clown costume. Here are a few links with more info: LaRouche quotes, and a fairly current article in a student newspaper of George Mason University, and a brief mention in a local newspaper of the fact that he has qualified for federal matching funds for his campaign financing. He doesn't get mentioned in much mainstream media, because he's just so far off the wall. Or... maybe it's because the mainstream media really is conspiring against him ;-)

And, oh, by the way, he is from New Hampshire.
