Quoted in ePro Today Got a call from Jim O'Donnell yesterday. Happened to be in my office at the time. That's the real key to getting quoted in the trade magazines. Be there when they call. They're always on deadline. Anyhow Jim wrote up an article about DB2 integration with Domino, and he included a few comments from yours truly and also from Andrew. I didn't really have anything earth-shattering to say. DB2 integration is a good thing, and I strongly believe that. I'm not worried about "NSF going away". Certainly not any time soon. IBM is huge, and while Domino revenues are a small portion of IBM's overall bottom line and there are always going to be people in IBM who treat Domino and NSF as second-class citizens, but the installed base of Notes and Domino is huge, and Domino's penetration in the top few hundred accounts that IBM cares about the most is very strong; so any way you slice itthere is zero chance of IBM ever adopting a rip-and-replace strategy for NSF.
In the meantime, the performance curve of Domino applications should be able to be pushed up. We devotees of Domino know that our platform is capable of beating just about any other in terms of rapid development and deployment of solutions that bring immediate business value, until you start talking about high-volume transactional processing. Sure, Domino can do that today, but even the most devoted Domino fan has to admit that it takes huge effort and a lot of crazy workarounds to pull it off. My fervent hope is that DB2 will reduce the number of times that I have to turn to my clients and say "that's a great application and I'd love to help you, but it's not a great Domino application"
