Radicati Hoist By Their Own Petard Via Ed Brill, here is IBM's official reaction to the recent Radicati report-cum-Microsoft-PR-piece. IBM cites multiple instances of Radicati analyst's public statements that directly contradict the report, not to mention portions of the report that are inconsistent with each other and even self-contradictory. -rich
P.S. In looking up the actual definition of the phrase that I used in the title, I discoverd a great deal of interesting word history. The word "petard" actually has an ahem! biological derivation. I had no idea, but as English meaning has departed from this entirely, I'm not shocked that I didn't know this. Also in this context, the word "hoist" is actually an inflected form of "hoise". I consider myself to be fairly well read, somewhat learned even, with excellent vocabulary... but I had no idea that "hoise" was an English word. (m-w.com is somewhat more explicit about this, but their pages are not linkable) . A;though I haven't been able to verify this, it occurs to me that the classic Doug and Bob McKenzie slang "hosed" and "hoser" are probably also variants of the same root.
