Readership Of Newspapers Switching To Kerry Via Tom O'Neil, here's a list of newspapers that have switched their endorsement from Republican to Democrat or vice versa this election cycle. Pasting the table on that page into a spreadsheet made it easy to total the circulation of the papers that switched in each direction. With far more papers switching from Republican to Democrat, the delta in circulation is 3,062,180. As this page shows, without that delta Kerry would have a margin of only slightly more than 1,000,000 in readership of the papers that have endorsed him, but all the switches bring the margin to over 7,000,000. If readers switching follow the newspapers in roughly the same percentage, this could be indicative of a significantly larger popular vote margin for Kerry in 2004 than Gore had in 2000. Whether that holds true, and what it might mean for the electoral vote, remains to be seen -- on Tuesday.
