What A Game! What A Series! Wow! 11th inning walk-off home run for Aaron Boone in the 7th and deciding game of the Yankee - Red Sox series. Boone had been ineffective in earlier games of the season, and Enrique WIlson had hit pretty well against Pedro Martinez previously, so Wilson started. Boone came in after Pedro left the game, and he hit the first pitch he faced out of the park! The game already had "classic" written all over it, and the ending definitely justifies it. Sometimes I actually do wonder why, after living in New England for 25 years, am I still a Yankee fan? Today's Yankees are certainly not the team I grew up with. And yes, they have bought a lot of expensive star players. I don't contest that at all. But then along comes Aaron Boone, just like along came Scott Brosius, and way back when it was Bucky Dent, and before that there was Chris Chambliss.. unlikely heros who definitely were not superstars but came through as part of a great team. And that, I think, is why I'm still a fan. No matter how much the team changes, it's always the team that comes first, not the players.
